The A-Spec AZ-1

Remember, all the special AZ-1s were all once plain jane base cars that rolled off the line like every other car.

Any “special” models were existing cars that were upfitted with the upgrades to help with sales.

All the demo cars that the press did reviews on have sequential number plates, 7 of them from か81-63 to か81-69. For 81-63, it has a distinctive sticker on the windscreen, near the mirror, with a "9" on it, which makes it pretty easy to keep track of. Anyway, that car was featured as a base-spec red AZ-1 with steel wheels in J's Tipo 1992-11-01 and AutoWeek 1992-12-07. But later, in 1993, it got transformed into the Mazdaspeed A-Spec demo car, with all the optional Mazdaspeed parts attached. It still has the same number plate and the same distinctive "9" sticker (which none of the other have). So it appears in J's Tipo 1993-09-01 with all that kit.

Anyway, just thought it was interesting that even that mythical "A-Spec" car with all the bits attached, once started as a base car, and that there are photos in both guises
